Health Insurance in Texas from a Source You Can Trust

May 28th, 2010

The Texas Department of Insurance has received complaints that people are using the federal health care reform legislation to trick consumers into giving out confidential information. If you feel that someone is trying to take advantage of you in this way, please report it to the Texas Department of Insurance immediately, and don’t give out personal information.

Be wary of people either coming to your home or calling you while claiming to be with the federal government and trying to sell you anything. Such fraudulent sales reps have tried to sell a bogus product called an “ObamaCare Insurance Policy.” They may say that the policy is being offered during a limited enrollment period that has been created by the new health care reform. This is not true. Health insurance policies are issued by companies, and not through legislation. Read the rest of this entry »

How To Get Texas Health Insurance In Bad Times

May 20th, 2010

Bad times are not without silver linings. That’s even true for recessions. Excessive alcohol consumption, over indulging in unhealthy food, and smoking all decline during recessions, and that improves our health. Even the Great Depression increased life expectancy in the U.S. by 6.2 years. The increase in lifespan happened for men and women, and for whites and non-whites. The association between improving health and economic slowdowns was true for all ages, and for every major cause of death except suicide. Read the rest of this entry »
